No, you are not studying it incorrect. In Limón, Costa Rica it is spelled “Carnaval”, not Carnival like the popular Brazil Carnival. I had the chance to check out Limón, Costa Rica for their annual Carnaval celebration a couple many years back. It was a colorful event that lasted two weeks lengthy. It is a huge celebration that combines Costa Rican culture with Caribbean culture.
