The capital city of Ecuador is Quito - a gorgeous spot built high up with in the mountains. For those with a head for heights take the telefonica cable car up from the base of the Pinchincha volcano for wonderful views of the city. At two,800m above sea level the altitude in the city itself does take a little finding utilised to! Quito is split in to two fairly distinct components - old and new. Quito old town is very gorgeous and fairly European in feel -
